Who or what is NOVA?

NOVA is an organization made of the videogamers, for the videogamers, by the videogamers. The acronym is short for New Order of Videogame .. Addicts. Um, actually, we're not really 100% sure what that A should be. It seems that an increasing number of people would like it to return to the original "Addicts," but until then, it could be Advocates or Afficionados or Albuquerqueans or Anythingyoulikese.

What is NOVA's mission statement?

Seeking a safer and more enjoyable world for our fellow videogamers everywhere, NOVA stands to:

  1. Connect gamers globally with a community website;
  2. Defend gamers and gaming when misunderstood or threatened;
  3. Advocate games as potential works of art, significant to culture, and worthy of study and respect;
  4. Support game-related organizations and charities;
  5. Uphold the principles of this mission statement with relish -- and some cheese.

How do you carry this out?

Err, we're working on that.

How do you plan to carry this out?

  1. The website (not to mention a stable message board, sheesh,) is continually in progress.
  2. We wouldn't mind at all being active in lobbying and petitioning and whatnot in governmental issues.
  3. We'll eventually start reviewing games (on their merits of significance much more than their purchasability,) and writing essays about such.
  4. Once the dust settles and we start getting in more members than the core starting group, we'll start giving away kewl garments and things in exchange for generous donations -- and being not-for-profit, we probably have every intention of using our money pool to primarily keep the official website afloat, and then support other organizations and charities with money and moral support and advertising and the like.
  5. You get the idea. We'll try to do what we can with rigor and preserverance, but have fun doin' it. I mean, c'mon, our purpose revolves around videogames, whose main purpose is to have fun, right? Ask any coach about sportsmanship, and see if (s)he agrees with this statement: any game loses "something special" when you stop enjoying it.

Why do you require people to become members?

Guests can certainly view and read nearly anything on the site, but only members can truly interact and voice their opinions. We here at NOVA pride ourselves on the "Utopian Anarchy," but as with any other online community, there are times when it is necessary for the staff to enforce the peace. This is easier to do with a membership; plus, nobody can easily pretend to be you; plus, it's nice to know just how large our community is. And hey, applying for membership is free and simple, so what have you got to lose?

Cool, so membership is free?

Sure is, Buckaroo! Just file an application, and you'll get processed. You should gain membership pretty quickly, unless you're perhaps some kind of obvious mass murderer with a delusional superhero complex. For example, if an application's "Why do you want to be part of NOVA?" blank is filled in with "hi mai nam r liek UBERMARIO i pwnx0rz joo!!!!1 ROTFLMHOLOLOLOL y0 9!\/3 me teh membr k plz thx" the NOVA staff will likely read it, chuckle merrily, and promptly depress the nearest delete button. Otherwise, you should be fine -- just read the guidelines on the application page before/while you fill it out.

When will goNOVA.org finally get updated?

Sometimes, I hear the grown-ups talking about some progress site on an island far away, but I don't know anything about that -- I'm just a Knave! ~keeps tossing ball back and forth absentmindedly~
